Sapphires are available in a multitude of colours but mostly popularly in blue. Red sapphires are otherwise known as rubies and are one of the rarest coloured stones. Historically mined in South East Asia, rubies and sapphires are now also mined in Africa and Central Asia.
Emeralds are green in colour, with their value primarily determined by the depth of colour and level of transparency.
